Why Children Not Allowed on Gorilla Safari?
There are few remaining mountain Gorillas in the world. To that note therefore, all possible measures aiming at protecting them (Gorillas) have been set up. Among them is the restriction of children below the age of 15 years, below are some of the reasons why children below is years not allowed to meet Gorillas.
Children are very prone to communicable diseases and can easily spread them to mountain gorillas while on their trek. Disease like Tuber closes, Cold, Ebola among others can easily be transmitted from human to primates and the reverse is true.
You can not predict how the children will react at the meeting with the Gorillas – some of them can cry loud, run, shout among others which can force the gorillas to charge/ upset.
The process is strenuous/ tiresome – children can not endure moving long distance for long hours. Therefore, to enable elders enjoy their trek, children are restricted to go gorilla trekking.
In case of danger, children can not defend them selves- if attached by an animal; children can not run so fast for their lives.
Gorilla trekking trails are slipper – on which children can fall before meeting gorillas.
Grasping gorilla trekking rules and regulation may turn to be hard for children. They can violet them and then make trekking disorganized or incomplete. For example a child may urinate or defecate any where, any how.
Forest pests/ insect bites – some tropical forest harbors mosquitoes, tsetse flies among others. Mosquitoes cause malaria and tsetse flies cause sleeping sickness yet children are highly susceptible to diseases.
Funds paid for gorilla permits are non refundable – in case a visitor doesn’t appear, failure to meet Gorillas, and so on. It is uncertain for the children to meet gorillas. Therefore, buying gorilla permits for the children you are not sure of meeting gorillas is bad.
